Repairs and maintenance for driveway gates across Melbourne’s East, from the Kilsyth team that fabricates and installs gates.

Most gate problems are predictable. They usually give you warning signs, and a lot of them are easy to sort out.
Gates work hard and live outside. Here is what the common faults usually point to.

Most failures come down to a few things.

We fabricate and install gates, so we can tell you whether the problem is the gate or the opener.

We repair and maintain driveway gates across Melbourne’s East.

We also modify, alter and repair existing steelwork.
A gate that is hard to move by hand needs the gate sorted first. No opener can fix that.
Is the remote battery flat? Does the wall button or keypad still work? If so, the problem is probably the remote, not the gate. Look for a stone, branch or rubbish in the track.
If the motor hums but the gate does not move, check the manual release has not been left engaged. If the gate will not close fully, wipe the sensor lenses with a soft cloth and make sure the two sensors face each other squarely. Do not open up a powered motor: that is a job for a technician.
If a gate is hard to move by hand, no opener can fix that, so sort out the gate first. A well-built, properly hung steel gate should swing or slide almost effortlessly.
If the gate itself is the issue.
If the gate moves freely by hand.

Wash with mild soapy water a couple of times a year, rinse off salt, dust and bird droppings, and check the hinges, rollers and motor once a year. For steel gates, also take a quick look for chips and scratches.
It depends on what is wrong and the gate it is on. Tell us what the gate is doing and we will advise. Planning a new gate instead?

really great bloke who does an amazing job. if you need some fabricating work done then this is definately the place. A+ customer service and above grade finished products produced by a group of professionals.
Before you blame the motor, check the boring stuff. A flat battery is the most common cause. If the wall button or keypad still works, the problem is almost certainly the remote, not the gate. A remote can also lose its pairing or have a weak signal.
The gate may be physically stuck, so check for a stone in the track or a branch. The manual release may have been left engaged. If it is neither, a worn part inside the motor could be the cause, which is a job for a technician.
Sliding gates often struggle because of a dirty or damaged track. Swing gates usually sag on their hinges over time, so the opener pushes against extra resistance.
No. The motor is only supposed to move a gate that already moves easily. If the gate is hard to move by hand, sort out the gate first.
A wash with mild soapy water a couple of times a year, and a check of the hinges, rollers and motor once a year, goes a long way.
It depends on what is wrong and the gate it is on. Tell us what the gate is doing and we will advise.
